About the Artist

Ruth Epstein studied at the Society of Arts and Crafts in her native Detroit. She went on to earn her degree at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois and also studied drafting and drawing at the University of Illinois. In New York, she continued her art studies with Roger Hendricks at the State University at Purchase and with George Peter at the Westchester Art Workshop. In the 1970’s she began showing the vivid florals and landscapes that have become her trademark. After viewing one of her exhibits, the art critic of the Boston Globe wrote, “Bold, realistically rendered paintings of amaryllis and cyclamen by New York artist RuthEpstein look real enough to inhale.” Ruth has traveled extensively throughout the United States and in Europe, Asia and Australia, always sketching and visually absorbing the local terrain’s colors and textures. She puts it this way: “The glorious expanse of a Perth sky,the subtle colors of a Provence countryside or the shimmering reflection of a golden pagoda on a lake in Kyoto always sharpen my perception and fill me with awe.” Ruth has had many solo shows, and her works, which are in private and corporate collections throughout the world, have won dozens of awards in juried exhibitions.
